Wrinkles Treatment Options

BOTOX® Cosmetic

Once eased into targeted muscles, the neuromodulator BOTOX® slowly calms unwanted muscle movements. The artistic sensibilities and experience of Dr. Peirson at ArtMed will ensure a natural result and care for normal facial animations.

How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?

BOTOX® Cosmetic injections relax the muscles that create wrinkles thereby lessening the appearance of frown lines, laugh lines and crow’s feet. The muscles of facial expression will typically cause the overlying skin to wrinkle in an accordion-like fashion. Botox® eliminates these facial wrinkles that occur with habitual overuse of specific muscles. It prevents the muscle from contracting, so the skin crease gradually decreases in depth and severity. A small amount of Botox® is injected right into the muscles that are responsible for creating wrinkles. Botox® effectively inactivates the muscles that produce wrinkles, thereby causing lines to disappear or diminish dramatically.

How long does it take to work?

It usually takes several days to notice the wrinkle smoothing effect after receiving Botox® injections.

Where does one typically use BOTOX® Cosmetic?

Some of the common areas treated include crow’s feet, frown lines, laugh lines, and forehead wrinkles. It is most effective in the areas of the face which rely on a single set of muscles for movement. For example, the area between the eyebrows is very responsive to treatment, but the surrounding muscles may sometimes be ‘recruited’ by the body to create movement in the area, even though the muscles directly below the area are completely relaxed. It is more difficult to achieve complete smoothness of the crow’s feet than the brow area for the same reason.

How long does a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment last?

A Botox® treatment is quick and results usually last three to six months. After that you may return for a follow-up injection. Some doctors report that after several treatments, the effect of Botox® appears to last longer, often up to several months.

Am I a good candidate?

The best candidates for the procedure are those between ages of 25 and 65. In many cases, wrinkles in people over 65 are “static” and do not change when relaxing the face. Other procedures would work better for these patients. Each person is different however, and should undergo a consultation determine the most effective treatment plan.

How is BOTOX® Cosmetic administered?

A very small amount of BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into each or the target areas using a very small needle. Because the needle is fine, only a small amount of the liquid is injected and the associated discomfort is minimal. Most patients compare the sensation to light pinch. No sedation or local anaesthetic is necessary and you can resume normal activities immediately afterwards.

Are the injections painful?

The injections are very small and done with a tiny needle that usually does not cause discomfort. The pressure sensation associated with the injection goes away very quickly and patients can return to normal activities immediately after the procedure.

What happens as treatment begins to wear off?

As the BOTOX® Cosmetic wears off the wrinkles will begin to reappear but frequently they are not as deep or noticeable. To maintain the smooth, youthful appearance year round, it requires three to four injections. With repeat treatments, the effects tend to last longer thus requiring fewer injections.

Is there any downtime?

No. Most people return to work or normally activities immediately following treatment. It is recommended however, that you avoid exercise, heavy lifting and massaging the injected area injected for one day.

Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?

Although the results are visible, a treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.

What’s the difference between BOTOX® and dermal fillers such as Juvederm?

BOTOX® targets and relaxes your facial muscles to keep them from creating wrinkles. Fillers smooth and fill in existing wrinkles, restoring skin fullness and volume. Think of BOTOX® as both a corrective and preventive measure against future facial lines and Filler as a way to deal with existing lines – restoring the volume that has been lost.

Is BOTOX® Cosmetic affordable?

When considering your facial aesthetic options, BOTOX® Cosmetic is quite affordable. Like other appearance-related investments, such as hair coloring and cuts, teeth whitening, and chemical peels, the cost must be weighed relative to your expectations. All of our consultations are complimentary so if you have a budget, our friendly consultants will be able to advise how you can get the best results based on your budget.

Thermage® CPT Skin Tightening

ThermageLogoThermage® is a non-invasive radio-frequency therapy that can address the look and feel of aging skin on many areas of your body. Thermage® treatments are customized to your needs, and typically require minimal recovery time. It’s a great solution if you want your skin to look sleeker, smoother and younger, but can’t afford a lot of time away from work or your social life. Thermage works in just one treatment with little down time and delivers a natural looking result. It’s you… just younger looking and more confident!

How does Thermage work?

Thermage® treatments are all about energy – focusing radio-frequency energy to kick start the body’s own natural renewal process. Like most smart technologies, the process is relatively simple – it’s a combination of heat energy to treat deep tissue, and cooling effects, to protect the skin surface and deliver better patient comfort. And our latest evolution of Thermage® includes patented Comfort Pulse Technology – gentle vibrations and interspersed cooling that make your Thermage® treatment even more comfortable.

How long does a treatment last?

Thermage®treatments are typically 45 minutes for eyes or face and up to 90 minutes for larger body areas.

Will the treatment hurt?

At ArtMed we have the latest Thermage® CPT technology – it adds a gentle vibration sensation and interspersed cooling bursts that give you even more comfort during treatment. You will feel cooling and heating sensations during each pulse. Throughout the procedure, your physician will ask for feedback on the level of heat sensation to help balance your comfort with maximum results. After treatment, your skin may be slightly red, but most people resume regular activities immediately after treatment. There’s typically no recovery time or special follow-up care.

How many treatments will I need?

One treatment is all you will need to see and feel real results.

What kind of results can I expect?

Most patients can see and feel Thermage®results very soon after treatment – in as little as one day.  Continued improvements and contouring can happen for up to six months as your body regenerates collagen. Your body actually produces new collagen which is how the collagen matrix thickens and creates a smoothing effect. Even better, results can last years.

JUVÉDERM® Dermal Fillers

logo_juvederm_gelThis procedure provides a face lift by restoring volume in the face. JUVÉDERM® Dermal Fillers are used to plump the areas of the face that have lost volume over time.

As we age, our skin begins to lose collagen, which causes deflation. The face begins to lose elasticity causing deep wrinkles and the loss of volume and shape. We use three to ten syringes of fillers to put volume back into your face and restore your youthful look.

This non-surgical procedure provides instant facial rejuvenation with limited pain and downtime, allowing you to replace that always-tired look for a rested look. VolumeLiftTM  produces a beautiful, fully contoured, instantaneous face lift without the surgery.

The treatment is comfortable thanks to the patented formulation of JUVÉDERM® XC (extra comfort) that includes lidocaine – a localized pain reliever. After the treatment, the appearance of lines on your face will be reduced and your cheeks plump. You will leave looking naturally refreshed.

microlaserpeelIf you want to refine the texture of your skin, improving fine lines and wrinkles, brown spots and sun damage, pore size, less than smooth texture and superficial scars, a laser MicroLaserPeel™ offers a wonderful option with minimal discomfort and downtime compared to deeper procedures. If more dramatic results are desired, deeper laser resurfacing can go further in improving years of sun damage, acne scars, wrinkles and laxity.

What is MicroLaserPeel?

A MicroLaserPeel is superficial skin resurfacing that removes a thin layer of damaged skin to improve texture and provide a more youthful appearance. It provides superior results because it can be administered with great precision of depth. The procedure is performed in your physician’s office and can be cusomt tailored to your specific ski conditions and desired outcome.

How does MicroLaserPeel work?

The MicroLaserPeel’s beam is scanned over a treatment area to remove a very think layer of the skin. Removing the top layer eliminates some of the damaged cells that can give skin a tired, aged look. As the skin heals, fresh cells grow and resurface the treated area. The result is healthier-looking skin, often with reduced winkles and improved colour eveneness. Patiens often say that it looks like their skin went tofrom looking tired to vibrant.

What conditions can be treated with MicroLaserPeel?
• Mild wrinkles
• Scars
• Keratosis
• Sun damage (e.g., freckles)
• Pigment irregularities

What areas of the body can be treated?
Most skin areas can be treated. Popular treatment areas are the face and neck, though some people also treat the
chest and hands.

How many treatments will I need?
Excellent results can be obtained in just one treatment, however the number of treatments needed may vary from
patient to patient. Your physician can personalize a plan based on your specific needs and may chose to combine
MicroLaserPeel with other aesthetic procedures to further personalize your treatment.

What will happen during the procedure?
Your skin will be cleaned in the treatment area and your eyes will be protected with safety shields. The physician
will position the laser handpiece above the skin and will hold it in place as the computer-guided scanner moves
the laser beam around the treatment area. Depending on the size of the area being treated, the procedure usually
lasts 15 to 30 minutes.

Will it be uncomfortable?
One of the primary advantages of MicroLaserPeel is that it causes little pain because it does not penetrate very deep into the skin. At its most shallow settings, most people can tolerate treatment with no anesthetic at all. At deeper settings, a topical numbing cream is typically used.

What should I expect immediately after the treatment?
Immediately after the treatment you will notice that the skin has a “frosty” appearance. This is the dehydrated skin that will peel away within next few days following the treatment. You may experience some skin redness and a sensation resembling sunburn, as well as mild swelling.

How long will it take to recover?
Depending on the depth of treatment, most patients feel comfortable enough to return to work within 3 to 4 days
– an attribute that has given rise to the nickname “the weekend peel.”

When should I expect results?

Because only the outer layer of skin is treated, most patients notice an obvious improvement in tone, texture
and color evenness once the skin heals in approximately 3-4 days.
