If you want to refine the texture of your skin, diminish fine lines and wrinkles, fade brown spots and sun damage, reduce pore size, smooth the texture and superficial scars, a MicroLaserPeel™ offers a wonderful option with minimal discomfort and downtime compared to deeper procedures. If more dramatic results are desired, deeper laser resurfacing can go further in improving years of sun damage, acne scars, wrinkles and laxity.
What is MicroLaserPeel?
A MicroLaserPeel is superficial skin resurfacing that removes a thin layer of damaged skin to improve texture and provide a more youthful appearance. It provides superior results because it can be administered with great precision of depth. The procedure is performed in your physician’s office and can be custom tailored to your specific skin conditions and desired outcome.
How does MicroLaserPeel work?
The MicroLaserPeel’s beam is scanned over a treatment area to remove a very thin layer of the skin. Removing the top layer eliminates some of the damaged cells that can give skin a tired, aged look. As the skin heals, fresh cells grow and resurface the treated area. The result is healthier-looking skin, often with reduced winkles and improved colour eveneness. Patients often say that it looks like their skin went from looking tired to vibrant.
What conditions can be treated with MicroLaserPeel?
• Mild wrinkles
• Sun damage (e.g., brown age spots, excessive freckling)
• Pigment irregularities, tone, texture irregularities
What areas of the body can be treated?
Most skin areas can be treated. Popular treatment areas are the face and neck, though some people also treat the chest and hands.
How many treatments will I need?
Excellent results can be obtained in just one treatment, however the number of treatments needed may vary from patient to patient. Your physician can personalize a plan based on your specific needs and may chose to combine MicroLaserPeel with other aesthetic procedures to further personalize your treatment.
What will happen during the procedure?
Your skin will be cleaned in the treatment area and your eyes will be protected with safety shields. The physician will position the laser hand-piece above the skin and will hold it in place as the computer-guided scanner moves the laser beam around the treatment area. Depending on the size of the area being treated, the procedure usually lasts 15 to 30 minutes.
Will it be uncomfortable?
One of the primary advantages of MicroLaserPeel is that it causes little pain because it does not penetrate very deep into the skin. At its most shallow settings, most people can tolerate treatment with no anesthetic at all. At deeper settings, a topical numbing cream is typically used.
What should I expect immediately after the treatment?
Immediately after the treatment you will notice that the skin has a “frosty” appearance. This is the dehydrated skin that will peel away within next few days following the treatment. You may experience some skin redness and a sensation resembling sunburn, as well as mild swelling.
How long will it take to recover?
Depending on the depth of treatment, most patients feel comfortable enough to return to work within 3 to 4 days – an attribute that has given rise to the nickname “the weekend peel.”
When should I expect results?
Because only the outer layer of skin is treated, most patients notice an obvious improvement in tone, texture
and color evenness once the skin heals in approximately 3-4 days.
Broad Band Light (BBL™) Treatments
Sciton, a leader in aesthetic medical technology, has developed a number of innovative treatment systems, including BBL. Many of our patients report that it delivers the most effective photofacial treatment; it can improve many skin imperfections, with no downtime.
What is Broad Band Light (BBL™)?
BBL is an innovative technology that sets new standards for skin conditions associated with aging, active life-styles, and sun damage. BBL energy allows the clinician to precisely treat age and sun spots, small facial veins, and many other skin conditions.
Your treatment will be tailored to match your skin type and your desired results. Any area of your body can be treated. The most common areas are those most exposed to the damaging effects of sunlight. The most popular treatments are on the face, neck, back of the hands, chest and shoulders.
How does BBL work?
The light energy delivered by the BBL will gently heat the upper layers of your skin. The heat absorbed by the targeted areas will stimulate your skin cells to regenerate new collagen foundation, leading to increased skin firmness. This process will restore your skin to its natural beauty, blending its natural colors and making it smoother, vibrant and younger looking. In addition, the photothermal energy will eliminate fine vessels that cause redness and reduce unwanted melanin that produces pigmented lesions.
What conditions can be treated with BBL?
The following conditions can be treated with BBL:
• Pigmented Lesions (e.g., freckles, age spots)
• Vascular Lesions (e.g., small blood vessels)
• Skin Firmness
• Uneven Skin Texture
• Unwanted Hair
What will happen during the procedure?
Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses. You may briefly feel a warm or “rubber band snap” sensation as the light is absorbed by the targeted areas. Your procedure may take a few minutes to half an hour depending on the size of the area to be treated and the type of procedure performed. The clinician will discuss all of your options with you. The procedure is gentle, noninvasive, and safe.
BBL treatments usually takes 30 minutes or less, depending on the size of the area. It may cause mild discomfort, which most patients compare to the sensation of a rubber band snapping. If necessary, we will desensitize the treatment area before, or during, the procedure to ensure your comfort. Depending on the condition being treated, you may have no after effects, or a mild pinkness that fades quickly. If brown spots are removed, they will initially darken, and then fall off
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments needed will vary from patient to patient and the clinician will personalize a treatment plan based on the level of improvement you desire. The clinician may also combine your treatment with other popular aesthetic procedures to further personalize your treatment.
What should I expect after treatment?
You may experience some redness that should resolve within a few hours. For some pigmented lesions, you will see a darkening of the treated areas followed by fading and flaking off at a later stage. Your treated skin will feel smoother, fine lines and pores will be less noticeable, and sunspots or uneven pigmentation will fade. Results depend on your condition, the number of treatments, and the area treated. The clinician will provide you with complete information about the post-treatment care and results.
It is important to follow the clincian’s aftercare instructions. You may be given some skin care products and instructions on how to use them. You will be sensitive to ultraviolet light and you must avoid direct sun exposure until completely healed. Fully cover your skin or use a broadspectrum sunscreen whenever you go outdoors.
How long will it take to recover?
This is a noninvasive and gentle procedure with virtually no downtime. In most cases, you are immediately able to apply makeup, return to work, and resume most activities.
Whether your skin concern is superficial or deep acne scars, surgical scars on the face or body, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation or photodamage, fine lines or deep set wrinkles, there finally exists a treatment which actually works.
Most of us wish we could slow down the effects aging has on our looks – and maybe even get a few years back in the process. Fraxel® is proven laser technology that can help reverse the visible effects of aging, naturally helping you look as young as you feel. With Fraxel, change isn’t drastic or scary – it’s you, just younger.
Fraxel® is effective on:
- Fine lines and wrinkles – like crow’s feet and brow lines
- Surface scarring – erasing effects of acne and other scarring
- Pigmentation – minimizing the appearance of age spots
- Sun damage – helping heal dangerous skin damage
How does a Fraxel® treatment work?
Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 laser treatment targets aging and sun-damaged skin with microscopic laser columns that penetrate deep into your skin to expedite your body’s remodeling of collagen. And since the laser treats only a fraction of tissue at a time, it leaves the surrounding tissue intact, which promotes very rapid healing. Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 treatment resurfaces your skin by stimulating the growth of new, healthy skin cells from the inside out.
How are Fraxel® treatments performed?
First, your skin will be cleansed. Then, about 60 minutes prior to treatment, a topical anesthetic ointment will be applied to the treatment area. The Fraxel® procedure takes 20 to 30 minutes for a full face.
What are the benefits of Fraxel® treatments?
- Smoother, fresher, younger-looking looking skin
- Improved tone and texture
- Erasing of unwanted brown spots
- Reduced fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes
- Improved appearance of acne scars and surgical scars
Does a Fraxel® treatment hurt?
Most patients describe an increased sensation of heat during the treatment. To minimize discomfort, topical anesthesia is applied before the procedure and cold air is used on the treatment area during the procedure. After the treatment, most patients feel like they have a sunburn, which usually diminishes in 1 to 3 hours.
What precautions should I take after a Fraxel® treatment?
Wear sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, avoid direct sun exposure for at least 3 months after your last treatment, and wear a wide-brimmed hat when you’re in the sun.
What should I expect after a Fraxel® treatment?
During the first 24 hours after a treatment, your skin may feel as though it is sunburned, and it will appear pink or red and you may possibly have some swelling. You can wear make-up to reduce the sunburned appearance. Your skin will naturally bronze over the next week or two, and as you continue treatment, the sunburned-to-bronzed appearance will repeat. As with a sunburn, your skin will flake and exfoliate normally. Use a moisturizer to reduce the appearance of dry flakes.
How many Fraxel® treatments will I need, and how will they be spaced?
Clinical studies suggest that on average, an effective treatment regimen is 2 to 6 sessions spaced about 5 to 6 weeks apart. Depending on your condition and schedule, you and the physician and laser technician may choose to space treatment sessions further apart. Results are immediate and progressive, with optimal improvement usually visible in 2 to 3 months. This time frame and treatment structure allow for complete healing and the production of new collagen and elastin to replace damaged tissue.
